New Urban College Model Creator to Close the 2017 AASHE Conference & Expo
June 22, 2016 (Philadelphia, PA) – The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) is pleased to announce that Paul Quinn College President Michael J. Sorrell will be the closing keynote speaker at the 2017 AASHE Conference & Expo in San Antonio, Texas.
President Sorrell is pioneering a new urban college model that is transforming Paul Quinn College into the country’s only urban Work College and has resulted in reduced tuition and greater access to students. Under his leadership, the institution converted its football field into the We Over Me Farm, which aims to improve the health and well-being of under-resourced communities in southern Dallas by providing fresh, healthy, affordable food options.
“Paul Quinn College exemplifies the conference’s theme of Stronger in Solidarity,” said AASHE’s Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “We’re looking forward to sharing its story with our community.”
President Sorrell been recognized as an HBCU Male President of the Year by HBCU Digest and one of Washington Monthly Magazine’s 10 Most Innovative College Presidents.
