Webinar: Institutionalizing Environmental Justice

FreeOver the past few years, the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC) at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) has been working to institutionalize environmental justice operations, programs, and projects for the campus community. In this session, student and staff host will present on the following programs and projects SERC has adopted and developed to address the demands for more integration of social and environmental justice programs and resources on campus. Presenters will discuss how each program began, how it developed, and challenges faced.

Colette Cosyn, Internal Operations Manager for the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC), University of California, Berkeley Colette (she/her/hers) is a fourth year undergraduate student studying Society & Environment at UC Berkeley. She supports the Student Environmental Resource Center’s (SERC) community and wellness initiatives through her role as Internal Operations Manager. Colette has previously served as SERC’s Events Associate, through which she organized UC Berkeley’s Earth Week for two consecutive years. Through her involvement at SERC, she has been able to fulfill her passions for environmental justice education and community building. |

Sharon Daraponhdeth, Director of Student Environmental Resource Center, University of California, Berkeley Sharon is the Director of the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC) at the University of California, Berkeley. She oversees environmental programs and services for students working to effect meaningful change on campus. In 2015, she served as the Co-Chair of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability and was the Coordinator of The Green Initiative Fund from 2014-2017. Sharon holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from San Francisco State University, a certificate in Fundraising and Volunteer Management from UC Berkeley Extension, and is a certified Zero Waste Community Associate. |

Teresa Yu, Coordinator of The Green Initiative Fund & Sustainability Initiatives, University of California, Berkeley Teresa (she/her/hers) is The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) Coordinator. Teresa was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy and a minor in Public Policy. As a student, she worked as a TGIF Program Associate for two years and is eager to continue her work supporting TGIF projects.
