Workshop: Building a Sustainability Across the Curriculum Faculty Development Program for Your Institution

January 4 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST

The two-part workshop will take place on Monday, January 13 and Thursday, January 16 from 2-4:30 p.m. ET.

Are you ready to see your institution advance sustainability across the curriculum by engaging faculty in course creation or modifications to include or focus on sustainability learning? This workshop will introduce participants to best practice models and strategies that have been adopted successfully across the United States and beyond to help identify next steps forward for your institution.

The Piedmont/Ponderosa model of two-day faculty development workshops has reached thousands at large and small, public and private, and 2-year to graduate level institutions for over two decades. This virtual workshop will provide a history, overview and innovative adaptations to the model with resource sharing, breakout discussions and goal setting to help you vision what works and what is possible.

This workshop is designed for interested faculty leaders, or staff responsible for sustainability-related faculty development, to acquire the knowledge, materials, and strategies to create an implement a workshop at their own institution. Sustainability across the curriculum programs continue to exhibit high value through the AASHE STARS reporting tool and in their return on investment on campuses and in our systems of higher education. Activities will explore the content, structure, timing, funding sources, partnerships, recruitment process and philosophy behind the unique aspects of the workshop model. Resource materials (sample agendas, readings, content etc.), interactive breakout room discussions and opportunities for Q&A will be included. The workshop will address challenges and solutions to advancing this work and provide current best practices from experienced leaders. Participants will be provided with background materials in advance and will have a small assignment between workshop sessions. Plan to attend both sessions (Part 1 & 2) for 5 hours total.
