Put a Price on It: Bringing Higher Education into the Carbon Pricing Dialog

This webinar will explore the role of institutions of higher education in the emerging national carbon pricing dialog. Institutions of higher education have an immense capacity to educate a broad audience and to leverage their social and political capital to highlight the importance of carbon pricing to mitigate global warming. We will examine two particular ways that higher education can plug in: by institutional endorsements for national level carbon pricing, and by modeling the solution with internal carbon pricing systems. We will provide participants with the tools to pursue both of these options, and to plug into a network of other institutions working on putting them into practice.

Presenters

	Nathaniel Graf, Climate Action Senior Fellow, Swarthmore College Nathan, from Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, was a double major in biology and chemistry at Swarthmore. They’ve worked on different environmental justice related projects through their time as a student, including working with the Earth Quaker Action team to defund mountain-top removal coal mining, advocating for fossil fuel divestment, interning with the Years of Living Dangerously documentary series on the impacts of climate change, organizing Pennsylvania student turnout for the People’s Climate March. Nathan currently works for the Swarthmore College Office of Sustainability as the Climate Action Senior Fellow to implement an internal carbon charge program.
	Aurora Winslade, Director of Sustainability, Swarthmore College Aurora Winslade is the Director of Sustainability at Swarthmore College. She previously worked as the Market Transformation Manager for Hawaii Energy, the state’s energy efficiency program, where she supported the University of Hawaii to achieve ambitious energy conservation and efficiency goals. Previously, she founded new sustainability programs at the University of Hawaii and the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC). She has been leading professional development offerings for higher education for the past decade, working with diverse partners including the University of California Office of the President, the Taiwan Ministry of Education, and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). She has served for several years on the AASHE Advisory Council and the Smart and Sustainable Campus Conference Program Committee.
	Tom Erb, National Field Organizer, Put a Price On It Campaign Tom Erb is the National Field Organizer for the Put A Price On It Campaign and is based out of Claremont, CA. He is a rising senior at Pomona College and studies Public Policy Analysis and Politics. Prior to joining the campaign, Erb was the Congressional Liaison for the #4Billion4Us campaign, a communications intern for Congressman Eric Swalwell, a climate intern for United States Senator Brian Schatz and the Co-President of a carbon pricing campaign at the Claremont Colleges. He has spoken on behalf of climate activism in the National Geographic Documentary Series, Years of Living Dangerously, at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, and at the World Bank Digital Media Zone. In April of 2017, he was the Youth Spokesman at the World Bank’s Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition’s High Level Assembly. He is from San Diego, CA
	Cassidy Jones, Program Director, Our Climate Cassidy Jones is Our Climate’s Program Coordinator. She develops and maintains the Fellowship Program, Millennial Advocacy Board, and is cultivating an inventory of educational tools for climate policy advocates across the country. Cassidy’s passion for the fight against climate change has taken many forms. She assisted in a federal environmental depredation trial, studied greenhouse gas emissions in the Columbia River Gorge, taught children organic farming methods, and served as a fellow for Oregon Climate in 2015. A recent graduate of Knox College, she holds degrees in Environmental Studies and International Relations.
