Carbon offset verification and validation workshops
November 16, 2017
FreeASU Sustainability Practices hosts Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative and Urban Offsets, Inc for carbon offset verification and validation trainings.
Attendees will learn to assess the value of the carbon stored in urban trees by performing verification and validation assessments. Carbon offset generation and management is a burgeoning new industry in the field of sustainability operations; it is a service that is expected to be in high demand in the coming years from governments and other large institutions striving for climate neutrality.
Two workshop times are offered – AM & PM.
During the lunch hour, Tani Colbert-Sangree will review Duke’s Carbon Offsets Initiative, and Corey Hawkey will discuss how ASU’s University Sustainability Practices collaborated with Duke to bring Urban Forestry-generated carbon offsets to the Valley. Shawn Gagné will discuss the critical role that private-sector entities like Urban Offsets fulfill, tracking and monitoring carbon credits. Additionally, Spencer Plumb will discuss a plan for restoring Southwest Ponderosa Pine through forest carbon offsets.
A light lunch will be served.
