This webinar on “How to make the most of your Sustainability Event” will focus on learnings and successes based on a several weeks long Sustainability programme at UNBC that was organized in March 2024. Green Day at UNBC has evolved into a multi-week sustainability extravaganza, featuring over two dozen events spanning from March 11 to March 26. The program covers topics aligned with all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is designed to inspire, educate, and empower attendees to drive positive change within their organizations and communities. From presentation and panel discussions on climate change and environmental justice, energy futures, youth leaders, and indigenous perspectives, to hands-on experiential activities like campus clean-ups, Repair Cafes, Human Library, tours of the BioEnergy Plant, and 3D art creation with recycled materials, attendees gained valuable insights and practical ideas for advancing sustainability initiatives in their own contexts. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in a roundtable discussion focused on developing the next phase of UNBC’s sustainability policy, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer learning. Though there were many successes, there was also a lot of learnings and improvements that we want to share with attendees in order to help them make the most out of their sustainability event.

Presenters

Ann Duong, Sustainability Manager, University of Northern BC Ann has been serving as the new Sustainability Manager at UNBC since January 2024. Demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability, she also holds the position of president and co-founder of Eco Living Community, a non-profit that collaborates with other organizations to build sustainable communities. Through this role, Ann has helped introduce initiatives such as the Prince George Repair Café, Gleaning Abundance program, and Climate Cook-ins. Additionally, she collaborated with the Fraser Basin Council Youth Program to deliver the Co-creating a Sustainable BC youth initiative and serves as the Youth Director and Chair of The Youth Advisory Committee for the Fraser Basin Council.
