Webinar: Campus Sustainability’s Secret Sauce – Athletes

August 30, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Free

Athletics teams can be sustainability’s secret sauce. College athletes are often treated like celebrities, making them powerful influencers for catalyzing campus-wide change and rallying enthusiasm for bold sustainability initiatives. This webinar will showcase how campus sustainability leaders can to tap into this invaluable resource.

Everything we eat has an environmental impact, so food should be a core pillar of any robust sustainability enterprise. Proper nutrition is also the foundation of every successful athlete’s performance. Fortunately, the most climate-friendly foods also provide the best fuel for athletes.

However, this synergy is not well underwood–so for many institutions, the challenge is in connecting these dots.

Conventional wisdom says athletes need animal-based foods to compete. But as the hit Netflix documentary The Game Changers shows–and as countless world-class athletes like Novak Djokovic, Venus Williams, and Lionel Messi have proven–you can be the best in the world on a plant-based diet.

Our webinar unpacks all this and more. Leveraging the latest peer-reviewed nutrition science, our faculty includes leading clinicians, sports dietitians, and plant-based athletes. Employing a variety of media, resources, and learning modalities, we cover field-tested tools for training, meal planning, and other implementation techniques. During the webinar, you can expect to learn:

  • Animal agriculture’s immense environmental footprint
  • The power of a plant-based diet to improve athletic performance
  • Practical implementation tools for athletes
  • Campus support suggestions

Plus, we show campus Sustainability leaders how to approach their Athletics leadership peers and forge win-win partnerships to help institutions meet their most ambitious sustainability goals.

Every Workshop attendee will receive a copy of Let the Plant-based Games Begin: Optimizing Athletic Performance with Plant-based Nutrition. Switch4Good developed this comprehensive, one-of-a-kind Playbook in consultation with the International Olympic Committee’s Office of Sustainability.

You’ll walk away from this webinar armed with the information and resources to take the first steps towards leveraging your athletics teams in new ways. We’re also excited to offer continued support as you transition your athletics teams to a climate friendly, plant-based diet.
