Reducing campus emissions and energy bills through software-based HVAC optimization

FreeHeating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) can contribute to as much as 50% of the energy use of the average building in the US, according to the Department of Energy. This makes HVAC systems a significant portion of the almost $14 billion spent on energy by university and college campuses in the US each year and a major contributor to campus emissions. But the combination of aging equipment and ever-tightening budgets means campus facilities departments are continually having to do more with less, resulting in HVAC system inefficiencies that often only get worse over time.
This is where software-based HVAC optimization comes in. Automated closed-loop control of campus HVAC systems, from chilled water plants to individual building Air Handling Units, can help higher education facilities cut energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and improve operations in a sustained way.
