Sam Hummel is AASHE's IT Manager. After graduating with a degree in Computer Science, Sam served as Duke University's first Environmental Sustainability Coordinator from 2004 to 2006. In that capacity he guided the implementation of comprehensive green purchasing, green dining and green building programs. Sam created the Sustainability@Duke website and newsletter to serve as a clearinghouse for information about campus sustainability efforts. He also led Duke's first greenhouse gas inventory and emissions-reduction feasibility study. Sam's interest in culture change programs resulted in the Students for Sustainable Living team, which uses peer-to-peer engagement to promote environmentally-sustainable behaviors. In between Duke and joining the AASHE team, Sam produced an instructional video to help expand the use of dorm vs dorm energy, waste and water reduction competitions on college campuses.
